I worked extensively with Ironworkers Local 84, located in Houston for over three years to build their political education and GOTV programs.

Through this work, I regularly represented the Ironworkers at political screenings conducted by the Harris County AFL-CIO to educate and screen candidates on issues affecting membership to increase their representation in elected office and ensure laws affecting them were met with informed elected officials.

I spoke with membership once a month to discuss the meetings I had with candidates and elected officials and also worked on get out of the vote (GOTV) efforts during election cycles to increase voter participation on behalf of the local.

My work was successful enough to catch the attention of the Texas and Mid-South Regional Council President who authorized me to conduct a voter registration effort throughout the council, which at the time, included the members in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Texas. This was the most successful voter registration drive in Ironworker history.
